An ACT for the Encrease and Encouragement of Seamen 1696


This is a repica of a 1696 act of parliament issued in William III's reign entitled "An ACT for the Encrease and Encouragement of Seamen"

This act ordered that all seamen must be registered and be ready to serve their country in the Navy. It also mentions that the sailors in both the navy and merchant ships would have sixpence per month deducted from their pay to fund the newly established hospital for seamen in Greenwich.

It is 32 pages printed on laid paper and is bound using waxed linen thread.
