Don Philip Hellen Proclamation

This is a replica of a 1675 proclamation issued by King Charles 2nd offering a Reward of 1000 peices of eight for capturing the corsair Don Philip Hellen, alias Fitz-gerald.

Don Philip Hellen, alias Fitz-gerald was originally from Ireland but had joined the Spanish guardacosta in Havana. He was particularly ruthless to English prisoners, with this proclamations describing him hanging one captured crew until nearly dead then slashing them with swords and finally chopping them up with an axe.

Also included in this Pack is a British Broadsheet newspaper from October 1675 announcing the issuing of this proclamation.
